New Study Focuses on Impact of Media Violence

"There has been debate over the impact of media on youth, but for the first time, a study has been done to underline the connection," according to a report today on New Zealand news website.

The article continues: "It was done by a team from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-owned Brigham Young University. The team was of the opinion that those who are exposed to objectionable videos are more likely to repeat such acts."

"Published on Monday in the American Academy of Pediatrics' peer-reviewed journal Pediatrics, the study has once again surfaced the issues attached with the quality of TV viewing."

In the pamphlet 'For the Strength of Youth,' The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has published guidelines and helps for teenagers, and those of all ages, to make wise media choices. An excerpt follows:

"Our Heavenly Father has counselled us as Latter-day Saints to seek after 'anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy' (Articles of Faith 1:13). Whatever you read, listen to, or watch makes an impression on you. Public entertainment and the media can provide you with much positive experience. They can uplift and inspire you, teach you good and moral principles, and bring you closer to the beauty this world offers. But they can also make what is wrong and evil look normal, exciting, and acceptable."

The Latter-day Saints' website for teens, features this new video on the subject, as well as this article.
