Pacific Latter-day Saints ‘Light the World’ this Christmas Season

Billboards, radio and TV spots invite members of the public to learn about and participate in Christmas initiative

Members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific are getting behind a global online Christmas initiative launched this week called “Light the World.”

The effort includes several videos and a Christmas service advent calendar that give suggestions for ways that individuals and families can serve others in their home, neighbourhood and community throughout the Christmas season starting this Thursday, 1 December.

Watch videos and read more about the #LIGHTtheWORLD Christmas initiative at Mormon Newsroom and Mormon.org.

“The Saviour said He was ‘the Light of the world,’” Elder S. Gifford Nielsen of the Pacific Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said today.”

“The Saviour also said, ‘Ye are the light of the world.’”

“What a wonderful invitation He extends to all of us,” Elder Nielsen continued. “To love, lift and help others, as Jesus Christ has shown. As we do so over this Christmas season, and always, we will feel of His love in greater abundance and share His light with those around us.”

Watch Elder Nielsen and Olympic champion Valerie Adams talk more about the "Light the World" Christmas initiative:

Supporting the global online initiative and localised service efforts, the Church has placed billboards and banners in many locations.

These signs, as well as radio and television spots, invite people to learn about and then take part in the Christmas initiative.

The Church will hold special devotionals for Latter-day Saints and others in some locations, to watch the “Light the World” video, sing Christmas hymns and share Christmas messages.

Those who take part in the “Light the World” Christmas initiative in some way are invited to share pictures, videos and comments at the Pacific.LDS.org Facebook page.
