Church Thanks Government Health Advisor for Service to Fiji Families

In a ceremony hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Suva last Sunday [6 July], Dr Isimeli Tukana received a “Family Values Award” in recognition of his work promoting family values and serving Fiji families.

Dr Tukana is the government’s national advisor with respect to non-communicable diseases. According to Dr Tukana, non-communicable diseases have reached a crisis point in Fiji. Pre-mature death is frequently a related consequence.  As a result, a family is often devastated.

“People are getting sick, dying early, and it is affecting families,” Dr Tukana told attendees at Sunday’s event, as reported by The Fiji Sun

He also said, “I just feel now in Fiji, family time has been compromised and we are spending so much time outside the family and the children are suffering as a consequence.”

The Family Values Award is sponsored by the Church in recognition of an individual or organization involved in community work which encourages and supports traditional family values. The award is open to all regardless of religious affiliation.
