Children of Vanuatu Celebrate Birthday of Worldwide Primary Organisation

The children of the Port Vila, Vanuatu Stake celebrated the beginning of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Primary organisation on Saturday 28 August 2021.

Primary is the Church’s organisation for children from 18 months to 11 years old.

Children and leaders from eight congregations met in three different Church buildings to learn about the history of the Primary organisation, play games, dance, and eat cake.

The stake Primary president, Eunice James, began planning the activity earlier in the year, hoping to provide an opportunity for everyone to recognize the power of Primary and its importance in preparing the children of today to become the leaders of tomorrow.

A video prepared for the event, shared how the Primary organisation began because of a mother’s concerns for the growth and learning of children in her area.  As a result, the first Primary meeting was held on 25 August 1878.

The history of the Primary in Vanuatu was also shared with pictures and commentary about the first missionaries in Port Vila bringing children together to learn about Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith, The Book of Mormon, learn songs and have activities together.

Vicki Cornish, counselor in the stake Primary presidency said, “As the voices of Primary children shared their favourite songs and what they love about Primary, it was clear that the future looks to be very bright indeed.”
