Church Leaders Discuss Strengthening Families and Communities with Vanuatu News Media

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with journalists from Vanuatu news media organisations in Port Vila on 23 August.

 

Elder Stevenson was accompanied by Elder Ian S. Ardern, General Authority Seventy; Elder Adolf Johansson, Area Seventy; and Yvon Basil, president of the Church’s Port Vila Vanuatu Stake.

The Church’s national director of public affairs, James Tounguen, welcomed news media representatives and introduced Elder Stevenson and the other visiting Church leaders.

Elder Stevenson told journalists about their meetings on Tuesday 22 August with the president of Vanuatu, H.E. Tallis Obed Moses; and prime minister of Vanuatu, Hon. Charlot Salwai.

Among other subjects discussed were ways the Church is helping individuals to strengthen their faith in God and Jesus Christ, as well as fortifying marriages and families.

Latter-day Saint initiatives aimed at lifting lives through education, humanitarian service and self-reliance courses were also explained.
