Around fifty people from Wellington came together to plant over 500 native trees, shrubs, and grasses on Saturday, 30 July, as 'Mormon Helping Hands' volunteers assisted the community group, 'Friends of Owhiro Stream.'
Martin Payne, who coordinated the activity for Friends of Owhiro Stream (F.O.O.S.) was happy to see so many trees planted in one afternoon.
“It was wonderful to see a group with such an extended age range with all the kids involved in planting and distributing bark chips. The involvement of young people is so important in protecting the future of this stream,” he said.

Bishop Quintin Howard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said “Restoring the Owhiro Stream banks is a great way to care for the wonderful environment we are blessed with in Wellington. By working hard and getting our hands grubby we are showing our children the value we place in the natural environment.”
