VIDEO: Young Kiwis Talk About the Latest 'For the Strength of Youth' Conference

This year's theme is "Trust in the Lord"

Young people from New Zealand assembled in Auckland this month to take part in a conference called “For the Strength of Youth” (FSY).

This year’s program included young people ages 14-17 from the South Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington regions as well as the South Island.

FSY conferences take place in many other places in the world, allowing Latter-day Saint youth to build faith in Jesus Christ, learn new things, and make friends.

This year’s theme was based on scriptures from the Old Testament. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Members of the Pacific Newsroom team had a chance to talk with some young people who took part in the week-long event, as well as counsellors and coordinators responsible for organizing the week.

Faapaiaga Williams is from Flaxmere, Hawke's Bay. She said, “I feel very welcome at FSY. I feel united here. There is this feeling that this is a positive space, being with other youth who are also on their journey of coming unto Christ.”

When Leith Kinikini from Porirua was asked if there are times when he has "trusted in the Lord," he said: “Every day. I have my faith in the Lord, 24/7."
