Vanuatu Latter-day Saints ‘Light the World with Love’ This Christmas

Tomato sauce, food and love shared with prisoners

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Vila, Vanuatu recently responded to a request to support prisoners in a correctional centre during the Christmas season.

A request for eight bottles of tomato sauce was sent by post to Church leaders, from a committee of inmates charged with organising the prison Christmas party.

Local Church members hand-delivered a box to correctional officers and a committee member through a gate at the facility. It included the tomato sauce, three bags of chicken wings, a cake and a framed picture of Jesus Christ.

“We gave them a gift which is the portrait of our Saviour, Jesus Christ,” said Yvon J. Basil, president of the Port Vila Stake (group of congregations).

“We hope they will hang it on their walls to remind them that regardless of who we are or where we are, we are all children of our Heavenly Father.”
