Vanuatu Communities in Dire Need of Water

Clean water specialists from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are in Vanuatu assessing needs and developing solutions to bring relief to communities hit hard by months of drought.

According to Auckland-based Church welfare specialist, Gary Winters, “We have water specialists dispatched from Church headquarters in Salt Lake City in Vanuatu at this moment evaluating options to provide more long-term clean water solutions on the islands of Tanna and Efate.”

“In addition,” he says, “we have Mathias and Petra Laben, a retired couple from Germany living in Vanuatu, serving as welfare and humanitarian missionaries.”

“They are part of the WASH cluster, a water and sanitation assessment group in place on the islands.”

LDS Charities, a humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, works with governments, villages, other churches and charities to provide clean water solutions and other support to communities around the world.
