Sydney Latter-day Saint Women Support Local Women's Shelter

Members of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Freshwater Ward (congregation), in Sydney, Australia, recently gifted bags of toiletries, personal hygiene items, hair care, and other items to a local women’s shelter.

This community service coincided with the women's organisation’s recent celebration of its 180th anniversary.

Each woman who attended the celebration came with gifts that were previously identified as needed by the recipients.

Local Latter-day Saint leaders commented on the generosity of the women. They recognised the need and blessings of reaching out to others in the community, and emphasised that one of the purposes of the Relief Society is to work in unity to help those in need.

The gifts were shared with Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter. This is a non-profit, non-government, community-funded organisation that provides crisis accommodation, support, safety and service for women across Sydney’s Northern Beaches who are without a home due to abuse, family breakdown, financial strife, domestic violence or other reasons. The goal is to help these women reclaim their lives in the community.
