New Zealand Women of Faith: Lynne Hutchison

On 8 March, women (and men) around the world will celebrate International Women’s Day.  Leading up to that day, and as a contribution to the many conversations going on in honour of women, Pacific Mormon Newsroom is profiling a number of Mormon women who call New Zealand home.

After raising five children, Lynn Hutchison attained her PhD from the University of Auckland and entered the field of paediatric research.

Lynne graduated in 2005 and has since been conducting research on positional head flattening in infants.  She is also involved with SIDS research and several other paediatric research issues. Her results have been published in international journals.

When she isn’t working she loves to spend time with her husband Neil, tramping in New Zealand’s wild, rugged and beautiful wilderness.

Despite her academic honours and contributions, she says that her greatest accomplishments have been in her home and family.

“Raising children to be responsible, honourable and contributing in their own right is what is important to me,” she said.

She is a strong believer in families praying together regularly. “The power that comes into a family when they engage in family prayers twice a day is what makes a difference.”
