New Zealand Family Fasts and Prays for Relief from COVID-19

Waireka and Greg Collings and their family live in Masterton, New Zealand.

Responding to President Russell M. Nelson's invitation to members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to fast and pray for relief from COVID-19 on Sunday 29 March, the whole family took part.

“I was very keen to participate in the worldwide fast to stop the spread of COVID-19," Waireka said.

"Especially after joining in the Pacific fast to stop the spread of the fires in Australia. I witnessed then the faith of people at work in the rain that followed that fast and I know that this same faith can cure the world of covid-19."

She continued: "I was excited to feel like I could do a little something to ease the pain and suffering being experienced in the world and I knew based on the messages from our leaders that it is within our power to make a difference."

Waireka says she is sure there is a long way to go, but she feels as though there is a protective influence on her and her family as a result of obedience and willingness to participate.

"Fasting has been a blessing,” she said.
