VIDEO: Mt. Roskill Remembers

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their friends gathered at sunrise 25 April 2018 in Mt. Roskill to remember Kiwis and Aussies who fell defending freedom around the globe.

Anthony Wilson, Church leader in Mt. Roskill, encouraged all in attendance to remember the service of those who have gone before and to be of service to our fellow man. See some of the rest of his comments in the following video.

Originally observed to honour those who fought and died in Gallipoli during World War I, according to Wikipedia, now Anzac Day is set aside to remember all those from the Australia and New Zealand who “served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served."

Veteran Pat Nuku, who served in the New Zealand Army from 1967 to 1985, and two of whose uncles served in the Maori Battalion during the Second World War, said, “Because of the commitment of servicemen and servicewomen, freedom will be something I cherish for the rest of my life. Friends that I made and lost will remain friends for the rest of my life.”
