Recently, 30 missionaries from the Wellington, New Zealand Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints volunteered their time to serve the community of Porirua.
These young men and women spend their days teaching the restored gospel of Jesus Christ as well as looking for ways to serve the communities in which they live.
The missionaries joined forces with locals from the community to plant 250 native plants along Mungavin Stream near Wellington.
The plants will help clean the water and contain the bank of the stream to prevent flooding.
Cheryl Brown, from Ranui Residents Association and project leader said, “There used be fish in the stream and we hope to get them back.”

Missionaries were asked to exercise their faith and pray that the rain would stop so the service project could go on.
Half an hour before the project was to begin, the rain stopped, and the sun came out. The project was a success as the community and missionaries worked together.
Cheryl Brown expressed her appreciation to the missionaries and community leaders for their combined efforts.
As they finished up, the clouds gathered, the sky darkened, and it began to rain.
