'Mormon Helping Hands’ Volunteers Beautify New Zealand Park

Around 100 volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently spent an afternoon mulching, picking up rubbish and fixing a walk-way at New Zealand’s Long Bay Regional Park, north of Auckland.

Shovels, rakes, garbage bags and gloves were distributed by park rangers, who welcomed the volunteers.

“We often visit Long Bay Regional Park as a family, so being able to volunteer at the park made me feel good,” said Andrew Johncey, one of the volunteers.

“I was assigned to lay down mulch around trees to beautify and enrich the park and to provide moisture to nourish trees during warmer days.  It was especially rewarding to see the park the next day when visiting with my family.”

“It was good to get together to help, and make new friends,” Stacey Hooper said.  “The work doesn’t seem hard when you know you are helping others.”
