Missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a three day beautification activity in Clendon, a South Auckland community. The project, which was sponsored by the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust, involved cleaning up rubbish, removing weeds, and repairing and painting fences in neighborhood driveways which had become sites for illegal dumping and graffiti.
Doing service is an important part of the calling of a missionary. By serving others, they exemplify Christ's direction to love one another. Missionaries range in age from 18-26 years old, and serve from 18 months for women to two years for men.
Numerous service projects have received support from the Church's missionaries. In expressing her appreciation, Barbara Carney, with the Manukau Beautification Trust, said, "These missionaries are magnificent! They come to them all [our projects]. We love them!"
