Mormons to Celebrate 60th Anniversary of First Ipswich, Australia Chapel

This month members and guests of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the first meetinghouse for the faith in Ipswich, Queensland.

The foundation stone laying ceremony took place on 1 February 1955, presided over by the Church president at the time, David O. McKay.

The anniversary event is open to Church members and friends, and will take place at 2pm on Saturday 21 February at the Church’s Ipswich Australia Stake Centre on the corner of Haig Street and Hunter Street, Brassall, Ipswich.

Current or former members of the Church in Ipswich are invited to send to anniversary event organisers pictures, videos and other memorabilia relevant to the chapel and the congregations that worhsipped there for over 30 years.
