Two of Auckland’s largest charitable groups that provide assistance to those in need were recipients of ‘Light the World with Love’ contributions this week from Latter-day Saint Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Auckland City Mission has been lovingly helping the residents of the city for over 100 years. They provide food, assist with housing, help access medical and mental health care and other services for both short and long term needs.
Alan Leuluai is a counselor in the presidency of the New Zealand Auckland Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife Rosalie represented the Church at this recent meeting and presented the donation to Helen Robinson, the ACM’s Missioner and Chief Executive.
He expressed his thanks to her for the services that the Auckland City Mission provides to the citizens of Auckland.
“Jesus Christ helped bring light back into people’s lives. Your mission is what Christmas is all about. Not only is it a haven, it’s a heaven for those people in our community who need your help.”
Director Robinson expressed her thanks not only for the financial assistance but also the many young missionaries who have been frequent volunteers at the ACM, helping out with a wide variety of tasks. “It’s your hands and your hearts that are here. We couldn’t do this without you.”
Another long-time contributor to well-being in Auckland is the Salvation Army.

He met with Kerri Palma, who manages the centre, and presented her with a donation from Latter-day Saint Charities.
She said, “These funds will be used to support families right here in Manukau and especially valuable here at Christmas time as many are facing a food crisis. It will also used for the longer term food bank development project. We really appreciate the partnership with Latter-day Saint Charities.”
Elder Burgess was impressed with many services offered by the centre including food, housing, rehabilitation services, addiction recovery, and many others.
“We appreciate the chance to partner with the Salvation Army, whose mission is very much in line with the values and mission of our church: ‘Caring for people, transforming lives and reforming society by God’s power.’ I am sure that they will do just that with the dedicated staff and support from the community.”
“As I see what goes on here, I am reminded of a verse from the New Testament: ‘Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.’ ” (Matthew 25:40)
