15 May is the United Nations International Day of Families.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the South Pacific region, and worldwide, place a great emphasis on nurturing and strengthening family relationships.
“When it comes to love of spouse and hopes, worries and dreams for our children, we are all the same,” said President Henry B. Eyring, member of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at the Colloquium on Marriage and Family at the Vatican last year.
“We believe that strong traditional families are not only the basic units of stable society, a stable economy and a stable culture of values — but they are also the basic units of eternity and the kingdom and government of God.”
According to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' statement on marriage and family, titled "The Family: A Proclamation to the World:"
“Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”
Spencer W. Kimball, former president of the Church, maintained: “Family life is the best method of achieving happiness in this world.”
