Hamilton Volunteers Prepare Community Gardens for Refugee Families to Grow Vegetables

"It was a great effort and a beautiful night"

A group of JustServe volunteers from the Hamilton suburb of Grandview cleaned up community gardens on 16 March.

The gardens will be used by families who are new to New Zealand.

The volunteers—many of whom are members of the Grandview Ward (congregation) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—used weed-eaters, rakes and their hands to tidy up the gardens.

Old plots were dug over and pathways were created with layers of bark chips.

According to one volunteer, Diane, "It was a great effort and a beautiful night."
