On Saturday 27 February, Hamilton City Council Parks, the Catholic Church, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) are joining hands to beautify and improve the surroundings of Hamilton City. The partnership is named Hamilton Helping Hands.
The Manager of Hamilton City Council Parks and Open Spaces, Sally Sheedy (photo right), Vicki Wihongi, Director of Public Affairs in Hamilton for the Church, and representatives of the Catholic Church have worked closely with many others to organize this significant effort. Working together, the city and the churches have arranged 12 major projects.
The range of projects is large, as groups will be involved in vegetation control, mulching projects, litter collection, water blasting, window and carpet cleaning, wall cleaning, playground maintenance, paver laying, landscaping efforts, tending gardens, general clean-up, and a blood drive.
More than 600 individuals are anticipated to help out at one or more of 12 sites.
The Mormon Helping Hands program brings together members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their neighbours to provide community service, partnering with government and non-profit organizations to support and improve the communities where they live.
