From Mormon Missionary to Rocket Scientist...to Mormon Missionary

“An American who served a mission in Samoa for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1970 and 1971 has the distinction of going on to become a rocket scientist," the Samoa Observer reported this week.

The article continues: “Christopher Rotz, born and raised in California, USA, graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and a Doctor of Philosophy, all in Mechanical Engineering.”

“A licensed professional engineer with over twenty-five years experience, he taught mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and later at Brigham Young University-Provo, Utah.”

“Among other things, he conducted research in the areas of polymer processing, vibration control and composite materials, has published 25 technical papers and was awarded three patents.”

Dr Rotz is back in Samoa serving a second mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this time with his wife Elaine.
