News Release

First Ever Pacific Youth Online Devotional

All youth in the Pacific Area are invited to participate in a special LIVE youth devotional broadcast on Sunday 25th October.

Elder Ian S. Ardern, Pacific Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will preside. He will be joined by Young Women General President, Bonnie H. Cordon, and Young Men General President, Steven J. Lund, speaking live from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Two youth speakers from the Pacific Area will also participate.

Youth are encouraged to prepare for the devotional by participating in the following activities:

a. Reading the Restoration Proclamation (which was first published to the world in April 2020) and sharing it with a friend.

b. Reading from 3 Nephi in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ each day and recording their feelings.

c. Qualifying for, and receiving a current Limited Use Temple Recommend.

d. Praying to receive a witness of the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ

e. Inviting a friend, who is not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to watch the devotional with them.

The devotional will include contributions by young people from across the South Pacific. A Tongan and Samoan youth choir will sing the opening and closing hymns, which will be pre-recorded.

Two youth will speak, from Auckland (LIVE) and Melbourne (Pre-recorded). Two youth special musical numbers have also been pre-recorded.

One of the soloists, Blanche Vila, will be singing the 2020 Latter-day Saint youth theme song, "Go and Do."

Blanche shared, “I am really looking forward to the Pacific Youth Devotional because my testimony of Jesus Christ will be strengthened through sharing and learning together. I will feel His love. I know that our leaders are called of God to teach us. They will give inspiring counsels to help me stay on the covenant path as well as my peers around the Pacific Area. In the scriptures we read, 'And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children,' (Isaiah 54:13, 3 Nephi 22:13).

She added: “It is exciting for me to be a part of the devotional as a soloist because it gives me an opportunity to minister to my fellow youth through this God-given talent that I am blessed with. In Matthew 5:16, our Saviour said, 'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.'"

The broadcast will be available to watch on Facebook, YouTube, and https://pacific.churchofjesuschrist.org/pacific-youth-devotional-2020, both live and after the event.
