Elder F. Michael Watson of the Quorum of the Seventy and Pacific Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints visited Monday [10 December 2012] with families impacted by last week's tornado in Auckland's northwest suburbs.
"There are two Latter-day Saint families who have been hit hard," Elder Watson said. "Their Mormon neighbours and families are helping them to clean up and get back on their feet."
"Our local Latter-day Saint leaders and members are also reaching out to others in the Hobsonville and Whenuapai communities, providing shelter, food, clean-up crews and other support."

Elder Watson commended the families for their faith and resilience. He added: "Their hope for the future and the support of those around them are testimonies to the power of Christ-like love and service."
David Sotogi, bishop of the West Harbour Ward [congregation], is coordinating the Latter-day Saints’ support of the two Mormon families and service to the wider community.
Civil Defence controller Clive Manley told AAP that “22 properties spread through the area may have to be knocked down because of extensive damages.”
Many of the people have decided to stay in their homes while they are being repaired.
