Elder and Sister Ardern Revisit Wellington, New Zealand Mission

Virtual conference allows leaders and missionaries to discuss lessons learned and faith strengthened

Every year, each of the 16 missions in the Pacific Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints receive a visit from a member of the Area Presidency and his wife.

Three weeks ago, Elder Ian S. Ardern, Pacific Area President, and Sister Paula Ardern, visited the New Zealand, Wellington Mission.

On Thursday, 4 February, "They had the opportunity to make a virtual visit," Elder Ardern said, "as a follow up to what we learned from each other."

"It was inspiring to listen to missionaries talk of their experiences that came from trying new ideas that were previously shared, discussed and demonstrated," Elder Ardern said. "There was talk of renewed confidence in contacting others, greater power in teaching and a desire for more disciplined discipleship."

He continued: "Elder Kahuroa said that he and his companion, while teaching lessons, have felt the guidance of the Holy Ghost. Sister Miller said she and her companion have felt inspired, since the conference, to increase their faith to find and were able to find 16 new people in the last two weeks to teach. Elder Morris said, ‘I learnt to invite with more faith. Since our conference, we have invited three people to be baptized and they have accepted that faithful invitation.’ Elder Harris spoke of he and his companion finding, and said, ‘As we have opened our mouths in all opportunities, proclaiming His everlasting Gospel, we have noticed the influence of the adversary diminish.’"

After the meeting, Elder Ardern said, "We have room for additional missionaries in all of the missions in the Pacific and again we make a call for the Pacific Area young men of age to step forward to serve full time missions and we invite those sisters who so desire to also serve."

He added, "As Sister Ardern and I reflected on what the missionaries were doing in the Wellington Mission, it was clear to us that they are engaged in a work that surpasses in importance anything that they would otherwise be doing with their time."
