Church Program Celebrates Ten Years on Radio Bora Bora

Volunteers consistently broadcast a gospel message every Sunday

Founded in 2003, Radio Bora Bora is the only radio station in the Leeward Islands in French Polynesia and one of six stations located outside of mainland Tahiti. The station was looking for new programming in 2010 and offered The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other interested churches in the area an opportunity to share their spiritual messages on the air.

Tafirai Tehihipo, a Church leader in the Vaitape Ward (congregation), and Daniel Teihotaata, created and have continued to anchor the spiritual programming for the Church on Radio Bora Bora.

As the pioneering leader of the program, Tafirai Tehihipo said, “Ten years ago, our stake decided to preach the gospel through the Radio Bora Bora station. Several members had tried hosting the show before, but it was difficult to maintain consistency.

Daniel and I decided to team up and offered to host the program every week. We prepared our messages from the Church Institute manual and presented programs every Sunday right from the radio station."

These two pioneers have brought their own dynamic personalities to the program and it has been going strong for more than 10 years.

Tafirai continued: “For one hour, we provide to listeners the opportunity to study the gospel, expound the scriptures and meditate on the doctrine and principles of Christ, in French and Tahitian, every Sunday morning from 8 to 9 am."

After managing on their own for 10 years, Tafirai and Daniel are delighted to team up with Mirihau Tehihipo, the new communication director of the Bora Bora Stake, who has offered to join and help them. Even though Radio Bora Bora already has a fairly large audience, Mirihau wants to give this program even more scope and substance as well as some international influence.

She further explained that she hopes to make the most of new technology and social media to proclaim the gospel even on the tiniest islands of the Pacific.

“It is important for us to help the Church become more visible around the world and to showcase this wonderful program in the Pacific. We want to help amplify the prophetic voice and the messages of our modern apostles and our prophet, not only in our corner of paradise but also unto to the ends of the Earth."
