Australian Latter-day Saints Celebrate the Vital Role of Families

Australia's National Families Week (15-21 May) is a time to celebrate families and the crucial role they play in our communities.

Members of the Adelaide Australia Marion Stake (group of congregations) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in this year’s Families Week in a big way.

A “Family Fun Day” was held on 15 May in Adelaide, offering a range of activities. Nearly 250 participants of all ages, crocheted, created art, cooked meals, learned how to do family history research, and played a number of different outdoor sports and games.

Michelle Cox, one of several neighbors and friends who joined in the fun, said, "Thanks for the activity today, my daughter had so much fun!  We will be bringing the whole family next year. I will definitely put it in our calendar!"

During National Familes Week, families across the country are invited to go on a picnic, attend a concert, hike, or do other fun things together.

Pacific Area president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Ian S. Ardern, spoke at the Church’s October 2011 General Conference on sharing time and experiences with our families.

“Time is never for sale,” he said. “How to best use the rich heritage of time to prepare to meet God may require some guidance, but surely we would place the Lord and our families at the top of the list” (“A Time to Prepare”, October 2011 General Conference).
