Auckland Volunteers Prepare to Pack 200 Hygiene Kits for Women’s Refuge

Young people motivated by #LightTheWorld Christmas service initiative

The goal to make 200 women’s hygiene kits for a local women’s refuge, to kick off 2020, was put on hold due to COVID-19.

Fast forward a few months to December 2020, Lin Penales, a leader in the Auckland Young Single Adult 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Takapuna, found out about the personal care items that have been safely stored in a church building in Mairangi Bay since the New Year.

Lin and some of her friends will complete the project this Saturday, December 12, 10:00 a.m., at the Church’s Sunset Road Chapel, 313 Sunset Road, Mairangi Bay.

Shanan Halbert, MP for Northcote, and Erica Stanford, MP for East Coast Bays will be there to provide support and help sort the kits.

Once assembled, the kits will be donated to a local women’s refuge to help women in need feel support and love during the Christmas Season.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ international theme for December is “Light the World, One by One.”

Members and friends of the Church are invited to perform at least one act of kindness each day during the month. The packing and donating of hygiene kits will be one way these volunteers will participate in the Christmas service initiative this year.
