New Zealand Latter-day Saints Travel to Tonga to Worship and Serve

A group of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the Auckland suburb of Otara are heading to Tonga in October to worship in the faith's temple in Nuku'alofa. While there they will also give community service.

The Hamilton New Zealand Temple is closed for renovations until 2021. In the meantime, Church members wanting to go to the temple need to go to another location.

In addition to worshipping in the temple, the travelers will participate in two service projects while in Tonga.

The first being helping in the delivery of donated desks to a Tongan school. They will unload donated desks from New Zealand, clean them, and load them into a cargo container ready for shipment to a school in VaVa’u, Tonga.

The desks come from a New Zealand school and have been shipped to Tonga by Latter-day Saint Charities in partnership with the charity Pacific Assist.

They will also provide support for a sporting tournament for local youth.
