Announcer and Writer for 'Music and the Spoken Word' Visits Australia and New Zealand

Lloyd D. Newell, Brigham Young University professor and announcer and writer for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s "Music and the Spoken Word" weekly broadcast, will spend the next several days in Australia and New Zealand.

Professor Newell will be speaking at the World Congress of Families in Sydney, being held from 15-18 May. He will then visit New Zealand before returning to the United States.

Each week Professor Newell welcomes viewers and listeners as they tune in to the longest running continuous network broadcast in the world.

Millions tune in to hear the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform each week, and also to listen to an inspiring “spoken word” message delivered by Professor Newell.  

Professor Newell holds a M.A. in communications and a Ph.D. in marriage, family, and human development from Brigham Young University, where he is a professor of Church History & Doctrine and an associated faculty member in the School of Family Life.

He has addressed audiences in 46 U. S. states and more than a dozen other countries through his seminars and keynote speaking engagements.

He has been a television news anchorman and a news magazine host in Utah, Pennsylvania, and for CNN in Georgia. He continues to serve as host and announcer for many local and national programs and events.

He is also the author of more than a dozen books and numerous articles. He has served as announcer and writer for "Music and the Spoken Word" since 1990.  

Professor Newell and his wife, Karmel, are the parents of four children.
