Youth from Across Fiji Prepare for Saturday’s Cultural Celebration

Saturday afternoon, 20 February, over 1,500 youth from across Fiji will perform in a cultural celebration of dances and songs at the ANZ Stadium in Suva Fiji.

The festival is in connection with Sunday’s rededication of the Suva Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Laisiasa Rokobuludrau Veikoso, the Cultural Celebration Coordinator, said “It’s been so good to work with these youth. It has been a wonderful experience. We wanted to include as many youth as possible, including all religions.”

The youth will perform dances representing Fiji, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Rotuma, Kadavu, Solomon Islands and India.

Over 50 volunteers, including choreographers, costumers, musicians, and videographers, have been planning and working for several months to produce this cultural celebration.

“Because there are so many performers, we have been blessed to use the LDS Church College facilities to fit them all in.” said Veikoso.

“We also appreciate the support of the University of South Pacific for donating their choreographers to us.”

The celebration is free to the public. The hour-and-a-half performance begins at 3.00 with the audience encouraged to be in their seats by 2.40 for the opening parade.

“This will be a great show and you’ll be really sad if you miss it,” said Veikoso. “Bring your whole family, your neighbours, and your friends.”
