Mormons to Open and Dedicate a New Building in Honiara

Latter-day Saints in Honiara, Solomon Islands are preparing to open the doors of their new district centre to members of the public this weekend.

Whenever The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constructs a new building, there is a dedication ceremony held when the building is finished.

The purpose of this ceremony is to set aside the building for the work of God.

A Latter-day Saint dedication ceremony includes a special prayer designating the building for Church use and asking God to bless the structure and grounds.

District President Matthew Sauseru will offer the dedicatory prayer at the ceremony on Sunday afternoon 15 November.

The dedication ceremony also includes music and talks from Church leaders.

A tour of the building for invited guests will be held Friday, 13 November.  The general public is invited to an open house Saturday morning, 14 November from 8:00 to noon.

The meetinghouse will accommodate larger numbers of members on special occasions, as well as smaller congregations for weekly worship services.

There are four Latter-day Saint congregations in Solomon Islands.
