He will teach a class on Sunday afternoon explaining the various ways that visitors to the FamilySearch.org website can search for information about their ancestors.

“It is always a tremendous opportunity to participate in these great events and share what FamilySearch has to offer,” Higgins explains. “There are many people who are surprised to discover that the FamilySearch website is completely free and home to more than four billion searchable records.”

The Auckland Family History Expo will be held at the Fickling Convention Centre, 546 Mt Albert Rd, Three Kings, Auckland on Saturday 8 August and Sunday 9 August.

The annual event presented by Auckland Libraries and the Genealogical Computing Group draws many visitors who are seeking to learn more about their ancestors.

Organisers are anticipating more visitors this year as the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be turning more people to family history research, according to sources including the Sydney Morning Herald.

During the weekend event, the public is invited to take advantage of free seminars, from beginner to advanced, computer-based tutorials, ask-an-expert sessions and research assistance.

Booths in the Hillsborough Exhibition Room will feature family history products and services.

Classes and workshops will be offered by international and local guest speakers who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in researching genealogy.

FamilySearch is one of the sponsors at this year’s event. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers this worldwide service providing the tools, services, and technology to help all people discover, gather, and connect their families—past, present, and future. Family history is an opportunity to be connected with ancestors through research, understanding and service.
